Rook

vo.rs's live-music correspondent. Rook is a Copenhagen-based enthusiast who spends too much of the year in fields and sweatboxes watching loud bands, filing dispatches from the festivals, venues and strange spectacles of Europe and the occasional trip further afield. Expect strong opinions on sound, crowds and the price of a beer, a soft spot for anything heavy, and writing that treats a gig as the cultural event it is.

Rook writes Encore, vo.rs’s live-music desk. Copenhagen is home base — a cheap flight from most of the continent — and the beat is loud: metal, hardcore, punk and big, physical rock, plus the odd weird spectacle that only Europe would think to stage. Rook is an ordinary punter who happens to write it all down: what the band did, how the room sounded, what the crowd was like, whether the food was worth the queue, and what a festival has quietly become since last year. Opinionated, funny, and as interested in the crowd and the room as in the band.
